Police Investigate Two Cases of Theft

A Hidden Valley woman was arrested Sunday and charged with stealing money from her mother, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

Lisa Esprit, age 36, was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday and charged with grand larceny. Police said she stole $1,500 in cash from her mother.

According to the police report, 911 dispatchers notified officers of a disturbance at a residence in Hidden Valley. When they arrived on the scene, the 67-year-old victim told police her daughter stole money that she had hidden inside her room.

Police officers found the envelope containing the money in the daughter’s backpack. Bail for Esprit was set at $35,000, and she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.

In a separate case, police on St. Thomas are searching for suspects who robbed two minors of cash and their cell phones at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Estate Anna’s Retreat.

According to the police report, the minors were walking from Tutu Park Mall when they were approached by one suspect who threatened them with a knife and another who pointed a handgun at them. The suspects took the cell phones and cash before fleeing the area.

Anyone with any information about the case is urged to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives at 714-9844 or 714-9805, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
