Special Olympics Closing Ceremony to be Webcast

The closing ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games in Athens will be available for viewing online through the sports network ESPN.

A team of athletes from the U.S. Virgin Islands is in Greece competing in the games and winning medals.

Those who want to view the closing ceremony can go to http://espn.go.com/espn3/index/_/sport/olympics at 2 p.m. Monday for webcast.

ESPN is also including coverage of the Special Olympics games on the network’s main website and news clips of the event could air on television as well.

This summer’s games in Athens are the 13th Special Olympics World Games, which are held every two years and alternate between winter and summer. The V.I. delegation is participating in tennis, weightlifting, track and field and bowling, and is bringing home some medals for its efforts.

On Thursday, Miguel Castro and Ebony Roumo took bronze in the tennis doubles, and Jamisha Barnes captured a gold in shotput. Nathan Edwards has won gold and bronze in power lifting competitions, and Micheal J. Pesante has a bronze in the swimming 100-meter freestyle competition and was slated to compete Saturday in the 100- and 200-meter breastroke finals, according to the Special Olympics website.
