Police Confiscate Firearms in Separate Incidents

Police on St. Thomas confiscated two deadly weapons in separate incidents, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

One firearm was confiscated following a report from a concerned citizen and the other was taken from a suspect in Estate Frenchtown.

• At about 12:39 a.m. Tuesday, 911 operators received a call reporting that someone in a vehicle had threatened the caller with a weapon. Zone C Command officers identified and stopped the vehicle in Fort Mylner and found a loaded .40 caliber firearm under the driver’s seat. Police seized the weapon and turned it over to the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives for further investigation.

• The second weapon was confiscated shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the departmnt. Members of the Criminal Intelligence Unit and Special Operations Bureau patrolling in Estate Frenchtown noticed a person, later identified as 23-year-old Keith Lettsome, sitting in a Totoya Camry rolling what the officer said appeared to be a marijuana cigarette. During questioning Lettsome admitted the substance was marijuana. Police searched his vehicle and found a .25 caliber unlicensed firearm under the driver’s seat.

Lettsome was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and simple possession of marijuana. His bail was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
