Florine B. Lynch Dies in Georgia

Florine B. Lynch, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, died at the age of 86 on Friday, May 27, in Decatur, Georgia. Florine Claire Bryan was born on Dec. 11, 1924, at No 4 North Street, Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to Lillieth Shanderson (Davis) and Egan Bryan. She lived the early years of her life on St. Croix where she met and married Arturo Roebuck Sr. on Jan. 26, 1940, in Christiansted. Together they produced two sons and one daughter: Arturo Roebuck Jr., Lauritz Roebuck and Edna Roebuck Soto. In early 1947, Florine decided to follow a personal mission and journeyed to New York City, where she met Eugene Mescus and gave birth to Eugene Mescus Roebuck. She later united with Vanborn Alexander Sr. of St. Thomas U.S.V.I., giving birth to Corrine Alexander, Clarice Alexander and Vanborn Alexander Jr. She officially divorced her union with Arturo Roebuck Sr. on Sept. 28, 1951.
Throughout her life, Florine celebrated the strength of her love for
family through the lives of her children and through her service with
local church and charity organizations. She returned to St. Croix in 1966 where she met Glen A. Lynch (d. March 15, 1973). They were married on Sept. 24, 1966, in Christiansted, St. Croix.
During her stay on St. Croix, Florine worked as a cook for the Virgin Islands Education Department. On Nov. 10, 1979, she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Star of Hope Grand Chapter. As a young child without siblings, Florine’s greatest desire was keeping close contact with her seven children. She later relocated to Decatur, Georgia, where she became a member of the Salvation Army Peachcrest. Her service with the Salvation Army provided an understanding of her spiritual nature, and her need to stay connected with family and community.
Florine B. Lynch is survived by her seven children, 30 grandchildren, more than 42 great-grandchildren and a wonderful blessing of great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend the wake scheduled for 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 2. Light refreshments will be served. The viewing of Florine B. Lynch begins from 2:30-10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, and continues from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 2. The funeral service will take place 1-2 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at the Donald Trimble Mortuary Inc. located at 1876 Second Avenue, Decatur, Georgia 30032 (directions: www.donaldtrimblemortuary.com). Cremation takes place directly after funeral services.
