EDIN Conference Holds Clean Energy Workshop on St. Thomas The U.S. Energy Development in Island Nations (EDIN) partners met with members of the U.S. Virgin Islands Energy Action Team, project working groups and local clean energy champions for a Clean Energy Workshop on April 7, 8 and 9 at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus. The purpose of the workshop, which was the fourth since the EDIN-USVI project was launched in February 2010, was to build strategies for achieving a 60 percent reduction in fossil fuel consumption in the USVI by 2025.
The first two days of workshops provided forums for government, utility, education and businesses leaders, environmental groups, clean energy advocates and developers; presented progress reports and data analyses as well as engaged in planning. The focus of the workshop was on moving from planning into implementation of the territory-wide transition to a clean energy future.
The third day, Saturday, was devoted to public participation. The public was invited to hear from experts from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), the Virgin Islands Energy Office and the V.I. Water and Power Authority. The event took place in Room 145 in the Administrative and Conference Center.
EDIN is an international partnership focused on addressing the energy challenges islands face. The USVI was selected as EDIN’s first U.S. pilot project.
Energy Office Has YouTube Channel The Virgin Islands Energy Office now has its own YouTube channel, and people can subscribe to it and get a notice any time a video is posted. A video about the present $2.9 million St. Thomas solar airport project is on that channel. The Energy Office previously used personal channels to post videos, but as there became more videos, it became necessary for the Energy Office to have its own channel.
