The V.I. Waste Management Authority advises the motoring public that a portion of Weymouth-Rhymer Highway will be reduced to one lane starting from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily beginning on Wednesday, March 16, to allow for the completion of the final phase. Prior to the final work, the contractor will begin to clean up the area around the Lutheran Church, including restoring the easement to the original condition.
The project has come to the stage where it is necessary to cross the Weymouth-Rhymer Highway to tie in a 15-inch gravity fed sewer line to by-pass the existing pump station in preparation for the removal of that pump station. This completion was delayed to allow for the re-engineering of the connection to accommodate an underground WAPA line that was discovered when the final phase of the project began. This work will commence immediately after the easement work.
Traffic in the area of the Lutheran Church and O’Henry’s Cleaners will be interrupted to allow for this work to be completed.
Motorists are urged to utilize alternate routes during this time. Those motorists traversing the highway are asked to reduce their vehicular speeds and adhere to the directions of the flagmen and V.I. Police Department’s officers.
The project has included the installation of a new gravity sewer system that is currently being constructed along the Weymouth-Rhymer Highway, which will eliminate the Weymouth-Rhymer pump station located adjacent to the O’Henry’s Laundry. A 24-inch steel sleeve has been installed under the highway and a 15-inch gravity sewer line will be installed in the sleeve. The sewer line will then be connected to the manhole on the west side of the highway. The installation of a new 12-inch sewer line and three manholes has also been completed and runs along the west side of Weymouth-Rhymer Highway. This sewer line will run from the existing pump station and end at the entrance of First Bank parking lot.
