Hummers, Softball Inc., Coolers Wrap Regular Season with Wins

The three teams threatening the defending champion Seaborne Stealers wrapped up their regular seasons on a high note with easy victories Thursday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Diageo Hummers and Softball Inc. both won via 10-run mercy-ruled contests, and the Coolers were seven better than the Dirty Dozen at 17-10.

Hummers 15, Anchor Dive 1

Roy Vialet scattered eight hits and allowed just one run as he pitched the Hummers, who appear to be peaking at just the right time, to a lopsided 10-run mercy ruled victory over a good Anchor Dive team, 15-1. Danny Rosa got the loss. It was the Hummers with 15 runs on 18 hits and two errors, while Anchor Dive finished with one run on eight hits and four errors.

Top batters for the winners were Colin Williams (2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs) and Kai Schjang (2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs). For Anchor Dive, Jose Guerra was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.

Softball Inc. 20, Cartel 4

Softball Inc. appears to have righted the ship heading into the playoffs as they hammered the Cartel 20-4 to close out their regular season on a three-game winning streak. Softball Inc. finished with 20 runs on 18 hits and the Cartel plated four runs on nine hits while committing three errors. The winning pitcher was Bill Harris, while James Smith got the loss. Top batters for the Softball Inc. were Nick Colliani (3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs) and Juan Santana (2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs). For the Cartel, Eddie Dunkirk was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Coolers17, Dirty Dozen 10

In Thursday’s late game, the Coolers outlasted the Dirty Dozen 17-10. It was the Coolers with 17 runs on 12 hits and three errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with 10 runs on 11 hits and three errors. Winning pitcher was Dexter Desouza and Steve Nisky got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Alberto Medina (4 for 4 with three home runs and five RBIs), and Eric Perez (3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jeff Elvins was 3 for 4 with a home run and one RBI and Mike Pede was 3 for 3 with an RBI.
