Cops Arrest Teen Carrying Loaded Gun

Police on St. Thomas arrested a 16-year-old minor carrying a loaded firearm in Mandela Circle.

According to a VIPD statement, an officer saw the minor acting suspiciously and approached him. When the officer patted him on the shoulder he reached for his waist area and a struggle ensued. The minor was detained, and police found a .40 caliber handgun tucked in his waist and ammunition hidden in his clothing.

The teen was arrested about 6 p.m. Thursday and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number. He was remanded to the Youth Rehabilitation Center on St. Croix.
