John A. Adams Dies in New York City

John A. Adams, also known as “Johnny Pumpa,” of New York City died on March 6. He was 57 years old.

He is survived by his mother, Asta L. Emanuel; life-long companion, Donna Fickling; daughter, Tamika Adams-Johnson; son-in-law, Kirk Johnson Sr; grandchildren: Maurice Fabian, Shonique Johnson and Kirk Johnson Jr.; stepsons: Howard Fickling and LeVon Fickling; special friend, Marian Walcott; brothers: Edward Peters and Elston R.Adams; and sisters: Winona P. Adams-Hendricks, Myrtle Girlie Adams and Sylvia V. Martin-Rios. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Juan Zito Rios Sr.; uncle, Charles A. Emanuel; aunts: Dorothy I. McBean, Cleone E. Jacobs and Enid Hodge; nephews: Alric Bayla Emanuel, Marcus Emanuel, Darryl Pemberton, Juan Rios Jr., Kasaun Wheatley, and Kevre Hendricks; nieces: Danielle Martin, Marcia Emanuel and Dr. Kysha Hendricks; and close cousins: Dr. Norman Armstrong, Winona Sackey-Joshua, Deanna L. Sackey, Rael L. Sackey, Sonia Joshua-Freeman, Laura McBean, Maurice McBean, Chrystal Ellis, Lenore E. Parker, Gerard Emanuel, Monica Emanuel and Desmond Emanuel. Other survivors include special friends and family: Randall L. James, Augustin and Dianne Henderson, Francisco Risco Davila, Leroy Dido Simmonds, Vincent Urgent, Hidalgo Galdo Williams, Gerard Herbert, Calvin Griffith, Davis Glasgow, Ernest Prince Galloway, Darrell Bartley, Carmen Mills, Janis Esanasson, Henrietta Cornelius (Aunt Hennie), Vivian Jackson (Auntie Vivi), Marilyn Tully Marshall, Michael Marshall, Steven Harris, Gerald Mercer, the McBean family, the Caribs Softball Club and Central High School Class of 1972; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a viewing at 9:30 a.m. and a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, at the Beulah AME Zion Church. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
