UVI Board of Trustees to Meet Saturday, March 13, on St. Thomas The University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, in the Administration and Conference Center on UVI’s St. Thomas campus. The meeting will convene with regular session agenda items. President David Hall will give his first President’s Report following his installation. The report will be followed by Chairman’s Comments from Board Chairman Alexander A. Moorhead. Then the board will consider the agenda items that require action. Steel Pulse to Perform Saturday, March 13, at the Reichhold Center The premiere reggae group emerging from the UK, Steel Pulse has enjoyed international success with such albums as “Babylon the Bandit,” “Earth Crisis,” and “African Holocaust.” Steel Pulse performs 8 p.m., Saturday, March 13, at the Reichhold Center. Tickets are $30 and $40 for the uncovered section and $50 for the covered section. For tickets, call the Reichhold Center Box Office at 693-1559.
Charter Day Ceremony Will Recognize Outgoing UVI Trustees The University of the Virgin Islands celebrates the 48th anniversary of its founding during the month of March, which is recognized as Charter Month. This year’s Charter Month festivities coincide with the inauguration of Dr. David Hall as UVI’s fifth president.
The Charter Day ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, in the first floor conference room of the Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas campus and will be transmitted by videoconference to the Great Hall, North West Wing on the St. Croix campus.
One of the highlights of this year’s ceremony will be the honoring of individuals who recently completed service as members of the UVI Board of Trustees. They are: Roy D. Jackson, CPA; Dr. Bernard Paiewonsky; Dr. Auguste E. Rimpel Jr.; Judge Audrey L. Thomas and Juanita M. Woods. A news release is available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu
Student Chapter of Council for Exceptional Children Gets Week Proclaimed UVI’s Student Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children has announced that Gov. John de Jongh has declared March 21- 27 as Exceptional Children’s Week in the territory. “Children with disabilities need and deserve our support and resources,” said Chapter President Zoe Matthis. “Providing educational opportunities for children with disabilities enhances their ability to live independent, productive lives and to become integral, contributing members of their communities.” The theme of the observance, “In Someone Else’s Shoes,” calls attention to the need for Virgin Islanders to consider the challenges faced by those with disabilities or those with children with disabilities.
