Cartel Cleans up Dirty Dozen; Stealers Fly Over Softball Inc

In Tuesday’s two games in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball league, The Cartel cleaned the clock of the Dirty Dozen 17-7, while the Seaborne Stealer flew over softball Inc 10-8 in a matchup of the top two teams in the league. In an earlier scheduled game, Wyatt Heat forfeited to Speak the Word Ministries.

Cartel 17, Dirty Dozen 7
The Cartel, continuing its strong play of late, crushed the dirty Dozen 17-7 in game two Tuesday night. It was the Cartel with 17 runs on 18 hits and four errors, while the Dirty Dozen had seven runs on 10 hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Dave McFarland, and Jason Roberts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Darren Lewis (3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Lebeus Gittens (2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jeff Elvins was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Luis Viera was 2 for 3 with one RBI.

Stealers 10, Softball Inc 8
Tuesday’s nightcap featured the top two teams in the league. This time, after dropping the last two head-to-head matchups, the Stealers was able to outduel its nemesis 10-8 to move into a tie atop the league standings. It was the Stealers with 10 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while softball Inc had eight runs on 14 hits and four errors. Sam Ramos got the win on the hill for the Stealers, and Cody St. Pierre got the loss. Top batters for the Stealers were Sheldon Turnbull (3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs) and Owen Pimentel (4 for 4 with two RBIs). For Softball Inc, St. Pierre was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Andre Poche was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

In other news, the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation will hold a meeting for all coaches of private and public agencies interested in putting a team in the Department’s 2010 Governmental and Industrial Co-ed Softball League. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.
