DNA Tests Identify Body Found on St. John

Police on Monday identified the man who washed up at Privateer Bay on St. John Feb. 7 as Pawel Kwiatkowski, 32. He was a crew member aboard the mega-yacht Charisma, the BVI Beacon reported in its online edition.
A V.I. Police Department press release indicates that Kwiatkowski was identified through DNA tests. Police previously said that his body had substantially decomposed after being in the water for numerous days.
According to the Beacon, Kwiatkowski was last seen in a "tender" on Jan. 29 as he left the Willie T, a floating bar and restaurant anchored off Norman Island in the British Virgin islands.
Kwiatkowski, a Polish native, had recently arrived in Tortola aboard the Charisma. He was the vessel’s second engineer.
Crew members reported him missing the next day, the Beacon indicated.
The Charisma’s website indicates that Kwiatkowski is originally from the Gdansk, Poland. He previously worked as a watch engineer on commercial ships before signing on with luxury yachts.
Tortola law enforcement officials are investigating Kwiatkowski’s death to determine if foul play was involved, the press release indicated.
