Stealers, Softball Inc., Wyatt Heat Emerge with Wins

The Seaborne Stealers, Softball Inc and Wyatt Heat, the top three teams in the Bob Owen Slow Pitch Softball League, all came out on top in some very tough games on Tuesday at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Stealers pulled away late to beat the Warriors 11-4, Softball Inc. outlasted the Hummers 10-4, and Wyatt Heat edged the Dirty Dozen 10-9 in the nightcap.

Stealers 11, Warriors 4

For the second night in a row, the Seaborne Stealers bats came alive in the late innings to propel them to victory.

The Stealers were in a dogfight with the Warriors over the first five innings before a grand slam off the bat of Angel Torres, a three-run shot by Enrique Soto, and a two-run blast by Ronald Schjang helped to pound the Warriors into submission and earn an 11-4 victory.

It was the Stealers with 11 runs on 14 hits and two errors, while the Warriors finished with four runs on nine hits and three errors. Samuel Ramos got the win on the hill for the Stealers and Angel Soto got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Soto, 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs and Schjang, 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Warriors, Juan Santana was 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs, and Fernando Quesada was 3 for 3 with a home run and one RBI.

Softball Inc. 10, Hummers 4

Softball Inc. continued to look impressive as they continued their march to the top of the standings with a 10-4 humbling of the National Guard Hummers in game two Tuesday.

Softball Inc. finished with 10 runs on 17 hits and three errors, while it was the Hummers with four runs on nine hits and two errors. Cody St. Pierre got the win on the hill, and Roy Vialet got the loss for the Hummers. Top batters for the winners were Antonio Cruz 3 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs and Cody St. Pierre 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For the Hummers, Dennis Carter and Mervin Mills were both 2 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.

Wyatt Heat 10, Dirty Dozen 9

The Dirty Dozen came close to pulling off an upset, but in the end Wyatt Heat proved to be one run better and came away with the 10-9 victory. Dexter Desouza pitched the victory for the Heat while Jason Roberts got the loss.

The Heat finished with 10 runs on 12 hits and three errors while the Dirty Dozen scored nine runs on eight hits while also committing three errors. Top batters for the Heat were Eric Flynn 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Steven Rosario, 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Dirty Dozen Wade Deshazer was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Brian Bailey was 2 for 2 with one RBI.
