Brief: Valdemar Hill to Chair St. Croix Hospital Board

At its last monthly meeting for 2009, Juan F. Luis Hospital’s governing board on Wednesday elected Valdemar Hill Jr. chairman for next year. Imelda Dizon was picked for vice chair, Joyce Heyliger will be secretary and nurse representative, while Wallace Phaire will be the new treasurer.
The volunteer board has final decision-making authority over budget decisions, managerial hiring and management decisions at the public hospital. Also on the board are outgoing chairman Carmelo Rivera, who is also assistant commissioner at the Department of Planning and Natural Resources.
The board’s current members are the aforementioned Hill, Dion, Heyliger and Phaire; physician representative Dr. Keri Biscoe and Kye Walker, a St. Croix attorney.
Board members Biscoe, Dizon, Heyliger, Hill and Rivera are also members of the Territorial Governing Board of the V.I. Government Hospital and Health Facilities Corporation. The territorial board is a joint body overseeing both hospitals and other health facilities, composed of members of both the Juan F. Luis Hospital and the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center governing boards.
