Stage Set for Gospel Singer Jermaine Sellers at HLSCC

Gospel Singer Jermaine Sellers

American gospel singer Jermaine Sellers from BET’s “Sunday Best” will be featured in a gospel showcase at HLSCC, Tortola, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, as part of the college’s 2009-2010 Performing Arts Series which opened in October.

In a recent GIS Radio Report, Linette Baa, coordinator of the performing arts series, described Sellers as a “highly talented artist with a very wonderful voice” who will not disappoint fans.
Sellers is a young and accomplished artist who has fans not only among Christians through his gospel songs, but also from within the wider community through his inspirational music. “So come Saturday, Nov. 14; the occasion will be great for a family outing. People of all ages have been touched by his music, so I encourage everyone to come out to the performance,” Baa said.
Sellers’ early professional career was focused on R&B. At age 14, he was signed by Tommy Boy Records. At 17, he did a three-month tour in London, which led to a seven-year deal with Edel Records.
By age 19, Sellers went on to branch out in a variety of ways, from performing on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and appearing at various open-mic events along the U.S. East Coast, to touring with R&B sensation Monica for one and a half years.
His cousin eventually pushed him to try out for “Sunday Best.” Given his position in the audition line, Sellers barely made it into the auditions, yet he blew the judges away.
During this time, Sellers felt a strong desire to rededicate his life to God and sought guidance from the leadership of his home church in Joliet, Illinois, where he has been a member for his entire life. Sellers went on to finish third out of the 20,000 contestants nationwide.
Tickets for the concert are $30 if purchased before hand, or $35 at the door, and are available at LIME, the College’s Road Town Bakery, HLSCC Bookstore at Paraquita Bay, Umi Fashions and Sunny Caribbee. Tickets for the post-concert reception are sold separately at $15 each.
