Louisiana State University (LSU) National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT) will deliver its Tactical Operations course to the V.I. Office of Homeland Security on Monday, Sept. 28 – Oct. 2. Participants from local agencies will participate in this problem-based course. The course, Weapons of Mass Destruction Tactical Operations, prepares tactical law enforcement teams to perform their functional roles during operations involving terrorist use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
Training activities include both classroom instruction and hands-on practical exercises that require tactical police operations in a WMD environment. Topics include threat, WMD agents, monitoring/detection equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), tactical decontamination, medical monitoring requirements and tactical imperatives associated with performance in contaminated environments. A simulated exercise where members of the V.I. press can attend will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at the former J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary School.
The WMD Tactical Operations Training is funded by a grant through the V.I. Office of Homeland Security and administered by the University of the Virgin Islands – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center, which serves as the official training center for the V.I. Office of Homeland Security.
