Education Commissioner Welcomes Students to a New School Year

Education Commissioner La Verne Terry, PH.D., welcomes students, parents and staff to School Year 2009-2010.
“We are excited about the upcoming school year and excitedly anticipate the arrival of all students, their parents and school-based personnel,’ she said. Within this week we have held a series of innovative and informational workshops for staff and orientations for our junior and senior high school students in preparation of the school year. We further look forward to welcoming our elementary students and their parents on Monday as they, too, become oriented in some cases with their new schools, new teachers and classmates.
“The department in observance of the nation and territory’s Million Father March celebration also encourages and supports all fathers in their efforts as they accompany their children to school and strive to be solid and participatory parents in their children’s educational lives.”
Public school students across the territory will report for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 31.
