The American Cancer Society of the United States Virgin islands (ACS) reminds the community that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It encourages all women over the age of 40 to have a mammogram. A low-cost or no-cost screening will be offered to anyone without insurance.
ACS Offers Free Mammograms to Those Without Insurance
Registration will take place at the ACS offices on St. Croix and St. Thomas. An authorization form from ACS will be prepared for you to present to the medical facility when you arrive for your appointment. If you do not receive an authorization form from ACS, you will not be screened.
Participants can register on St. Thomas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning Sept. 1, on Tuesdays through Fridays, at The Medical Arts Center Complex, Altona. For information, call 775-5373.
Persons with Medicare, Cigna, Blue Cross, Medicaid or any other insurance are not included in the no-cost screening offer.
