Brief: Supplies for Woodson School Improvements Vandalized

Thousands of dollars worth of materials and supplies brought in by Public Works crews for ongoing summer maintenance efforts at St. Croix’s John H. Woodson Junior High School have been damaged by vandals, according to the department’s commissioner, Darryl Smalls.

The vandals struck two nights in row, Smalls said Sunday. Crews are at Woodson to do electrical upgrades and install the long-talked about air-conditioning units at the school.

"Despite what’s happened, we’re going to work diligently to make sure our efforts will be completed by the opening of school," he said, saying that officials will "somehow try to find a way to replace" what’s been damaged.

The incidents have been reported to the police and an investigation is ongoing, Smalls said.
