Woman Killed When Hit by Car

The St. Croix Traffic Investigation Bureau is investigating an accident that caused the death of a female who was apparently exercising on the shoulder of the Melvin Evans Highway Saturday.
Police received a 911 call of a single car accident at about 6 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived they saw a Nissan Pickup truck in the bushes on the highway west of the Williams Delight intersection. The truck was traveling east to west when the driver apparently lost control of his vehicle and struck a female who was exercising on the shoulder of the highway. She was killed on impact according to medical personnel who were on the scene.
The male driver also had injuries and was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.
Forensic detectives and crime scene technicians also processed the scene in addition to the Traffic Bureau investigation.
Neither the name of the victim or the driver has not yet been released by police. An autopsy has been scheduled.
This case is under active investigation by the Traffic Investigation Bureau. The cause of this accident and the issuance of any citations will be determined by this investigation and announced upon its conclusion.
