St. Croix Landmarks Society will hold a new event on the Whim Museum Grounds, “Whim Museum Presents: Old Time Family Day,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 22, (a cruise ship day). This event will feature traditional foods presented by V.I. Agriculture fair prize winners, vetted traditional crafts booths and open house at Whim Museum Greathouse.
Children’s activities include storytelling by Auntie Janice, donkey rides, sack races, domino and wary matches. They will also have an opportunity to take part in historical role play in which they can dress up in period pieces and assume a role as a historical figure and take their parents on a tour of Estate Whim. They can also take a try at being a mocko jumbie and try stilt walking.
Anyone is invited to bring their old-time instruments and join in the scratch band presentation with Bully. Also, don’t miss the musical presentation by King Derby. There will be a demonstration of traditional, old time jewelry by Winston Philip, owner of Crucian Elegance. Bien Brignoni demonstrates making his traditional woodworking furnishings. Stop by the education exhibit of the African Roots Project/St. Croix population database and look for your ancestors, and much more.
Admission is $5; children under 12 are free.
