A police investigation has concluded that a 54-year-old woman whose body was found last Friday on Bolongo Bay Road was run over by a truck after she fell into the road.
According to the Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Bureau, 54-year-old Anne Morris was intoxicated at the time of accident.
Morris was walking westward on the road when she fell, according to police. A silver vehicle and a Ford F-550 truck were also traveling west on the road. The driver of the silver vehicle saw Morris on the ground, stopped, honked the horn and drove around her.
The driver of the Ford truck, however, didn’t see Morris on the ground and ran over her upper body, according to a VIPD news release.
"The investigation concluded Morris was intoxicated when the accident occurred and the driver of the truck did not see Morris in the road," the release said. "However, the investigation found the driver negligent for failing to maintain a safe following distance behind the vehicle in front of him and for not paying attention to the road way, which would have allowed him to see clearly ahead of him."
The case will be submitted to the attorney general for review and analysis, which will determine whether further action is warranted. Police initially stated the body was discovered Saturday and had identified the victim by the name of Norris.
