The University of the Virgin Islands – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center is now offering a certificate program to help managers develop the skills needed to manage the workforce more effectively. The first workshop in the series, First-Line Supervision, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. On St. Croix, workshops will be held at the Joseph A. Simpson Building, No. 23A Hospital Street in Frederiksted. On St. Thomas, they will be held at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus.
First-line supervision prepares supervisors with less than five years of supervisory experience with an opportunity to obtain basic management skills and training. Participants will learn practical strategies to plan and conduct effective meetings, solve problems, motivate employees, manage people, deal with conflict and handle change in the organization. The workshops are being held in collaboration with the American Management Association (AMA). Participants may sign up for individual workshops or all six of the workshops to obtain a Certificate in Management Skills in the Workplace from the University of the Virgin Islands and the American Management Association.
