18-Year-Old Charged in Chinnery Murder

Joseph AndrewsAn 18-year-old man who was attempting to leave the island was arrested Monday at Cyril E. King Airport for the June 24 murder of Issachar T. Chinnery.

Customs and Border Protection Officers at the airport detained Joseph Andrews, who was jailed pending his advice of rights hearing. Andrews is charged with first degree murder, second degree murder and unauthorized use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence in the shooting death of Chinnery, also known as “Tigrie.”

Police say Chinnery was shot and killed after leaving Club 75 in Kronprindsens Gade.

Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard Sr. and Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr. said they were thankful to the Customs and Border Patrol officers, as well as Major Crime detectives, Forensic detectives and all officers involved in the arrest.

“People in the community are tired of what is occurring here in this territory,” Querrard said in a statement released to the press.

“Young men, the same young men who are supposed to be our future leaders, are dying for nothing. The only way to combat these senseless killings that are plaguing our community is for all of us to stand together and say that we are no longer going to sit back and tolerate this.”

Querrard also asked community members to help police by identifying people who may possess illegal firearms.

“Every firearm taken off the street is one less we as a community has to face,” he said.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call the Major Crime Office at 340-715-5545 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any homicide suspect.
