May 30, 2009 – Carol S. Thorne Bohosiewicz died at home on May 26, at 80 years of age.
She was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., to the late Ruth and Everett Sweezy on Dec. 25, 1928.
She leaves her daughter, Maron W. Thorne, and all her beloved cats and dogs, a number of cousins and many wonderful friends.
She was educated at Glen Ridge H.S. and the Walnut Hill School and graduated in 1950 from Wellsley College with a degree in political science. She also completed the rigorous regime at the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial College in Montclair, N.J. before she embarked on her career path. She worked briefly for the CIA before marrying her first husband, William Hatcher Thorne on Dec. 25, 1954.
After his death in 1957, she moved with her daughter to Cambridge, Mass., where she went to work for Emeritus History Prof. Bernard Bailyn at the Warren Center at Harvard College until 1968 when she went to work for the Solar Satellite project at Harvard. When this job ended she and her daughter moved to Portsmouth, N.H., where she began working at the University of New Hampshire. Here she met her second husband, Greg Bohosiewicz. In 1974 they moved in with her mother in the family home in Wilton, N.H., and she went back to work at Harvard College, commuting 75 miles each way for the next 30 years.
She loved her job, which included working closely with students, some of whom included the Crown Prince of Denmark and several Kennedys.
She retired in June of 1999 and in October of that year moved with her daughter Maron to the beautiful island of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, where she felt she had found the place she was meant to be and was more at home than at any other time in her life.
There are no services. A memorial is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center or the Sunshine Foundation for low cost spay and neutering.
