Coast Guard Invites Public to Celebrate Safe Boating Day

This week is Safe Boating Week in the United States. On St. Croix, the week culminates in Safe Boating Day, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Monday, May 25, at the Frederiksted Pier. This year's theme is "Wear It,' which refers to life jackets that should always be worn when on board a vessel.
There will be free food and drinks for the whole family. Kids will have a chance to win prizes and a life jacket by going to the various instructional booths and earning the six letters that make up the term "wear it."
The Coast Guard cutter Reef Shark will be at the site for viewing and boarding. There will be many other activities and demonstrations including a helicopter rescue at sea; boat rides; use of distress flares; radio distress calls; kayaking and sailing instruction; knot tying; and much more.
