May 18, 2009 — Traffic on St. Croix's Route 60 along the south shore of the island will be detoured Tuesday so that the department of Public Works can perform roadway excavation.
Beginning at 9 am on Tuesday, roadway excavation will force morning motorists to detour at the intersection of Routes 82 and 60.
A temporary detour route will be constructed at the intersection for traffic traveling along Southgate-Great Pond road.
The department expects the roadway to be reopened to traffic by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Public Works Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls urged drivers to exercise caution when traveling this section of Route 60 and pay attention to signs and flagmen that will be present throughout the duration of the project.
