March 23, 2009 – After nearly five hours of poker tournament finals action, James Benton of St. Croix won first place in Divi Carina Bay Casino's World Series of Poker Satellite Tournament. Benton will represent Divi Carina Bay Casino and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the World Series of Poker Championship Tournament to be held in Las Vegas in July. He won the tournament entry (a seat valued at $10,000) and $1,300 cash for travel. John Neville of St. Croix placed second and won a cool $3,380; Ernest Morris of St. Croix won the third place prize of $2,080. The finalists have won a sum of $23,000 in cash and prizes.
Divi Carina Bay Casino, located on the east end of St. Croix is open seven days a week from noon to 4 a.m., Sunday through Thursday; and from noon on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Sundays. Treasure Bay V.I. Corp, which operates the casino, is the USVI-based subsidiary of Treasure Bay LLC, a casino management company based in Biloxi, Miss.
