Once again the majority of citizens living on STJ are either being subjected to witnessing or unable to end a most violent activity being forced on innocent animals. How can this detestable example of cruelty actually be advertised in and around STJ. One of the most shocking instances is, children are being introduced and invited to this gruesome form of entertainment by their parents or other adult family members which is illegal, criminal, everywhere in the United States except Puerto Rico, Guam and the USVI.
Many studies have been recorded in regard to the connection between animal cruelty and violence against humanity. It is imperative for us as adults to teach our children kindness, empathy and service to community. Is it any wonder that the youth of our communities are involved in multiple acts of violence against humanity? Anyone promoting (sponsors of this example of cruelty) or allowing (senators who in some cases may even participate) this abomination are as guilty as the actual participants.
We have rated movies in order to control our children's exposure to violence as well as other inappropriate behavior and I guarantee such violence would not be permitted to be shown to children. However, it appears the elected officials of the USVI do find this behavior acceptable. I ask how can that be? If I were a citizen of the VI, I would take the time to find out which senators allow this beastly behavior to continue. Furthermore, anyone able go to the "Pit" on Saturday should protest, bring your children and use this as an opportunity to educate our children against such behavior. Let them be part of the solution by writing letters to their senators and the Governor.
