District Hosts 2009 Intermediate Spelling Bee

Jan. 15, 2009 – The Virgin Islands Department of Education, Office of English Language Arts, in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Daily News, announced that the 2009 St. Thomas-St. John District Intermediate Spelling Bee will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort. Participating students and spelling bee officials are asked to report at 9 a.m.
District English and Language Arts Coordinator Cedelle Niles said to the individual school champions, "Congratulations to all of the champion spellers of the participating public, private and parochial schools. Your participation in this exciting event will determine which of the district's top six spellers will advance to the Territorial Spelling Bee with the chance to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. We, at the District, look forward to your participation in the upcoming bee and bid you all good luck and great spelling!
"A heartfelt thank you is extended to all of the volunteers, in-school spelling bee coordinators, coaches, principals, bee officials and sponsors whose contributions help to make this event an annual success."
For more information, contact Ms. Niles at 775-2250, ext. 8527.
