WAPA Line Crews Are Upgrading Service in Tide Village

Jan. 9, 2009 – Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority line crews on St. Croix are continuing the upgrade of the distribution system in Tide Village and will be working in the area daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the project is completed at the end of the month, according to a press release from WAPA. Crews will be relocating lines from the back of consumers' properties to the newly constructed lines at the front of the properties in order to improve service and safely access the distribution system for maintenance and repairs.
While some consumers in the area have already relocated their weather heads and meters to the front of their properties, WAPA reminds the remaining customers that it will be necessary to do so in order to be connected to the new lines. Affected customers should retain a licensed electrician to make the required changes. The electrician should contact WAPA to request a disconnect/reconnect service and secure the necessary permit from the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources if it is necessary to relocate the meter. WAPA will waive the $100 disconnect/reconnect fee in order to assist the customer in meeting the requirements.
While intermittent service interruptions may occur while the work is in progress, every effort will be made to minimize outages. Residents are urged to tie their dogs and leave their gates open in order to facilitate access. Motorists in the area are asked to drive with caution and observe all traffic directions.
