Omega Institute Speaker Program Returns in January

Dec. 22, 2008 — As it has for numerous years, beginning in January Omega Institute will hold free Monday Evening with Omega workshops in conjunction with its annual Winter Learning Vacations seminar series at Maho Bay Camps.
"It's an opportunity to gather new information that may help them in this day and time," said St. John resident Vicki Brown, who is organizing the workshops.
All workshops run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at SolYoga, located to the left of Mongoose Junction shopping center's rear parking lot.
The workshops kick off Jan. 12 with Ann Lindsay as the speaker. She is an award-winning artist, teacher and author of Watercolor: A New Beginning: A Holistic Approach to Painting. Her words help painters, whether novice or experience, look at painting as a way of life.
Annette Knopp is the Jan. 19 speaker. She is featured in the book Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Wisdom: The Feminine Face of Awakening. She'll discuss how everyone yearns to live a life from the "free heart" and how to capture what seems to be missing from people's lives.
On Jan. 26, David Nichtern will speak on "Awakening from the Day Dream." He is the senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage, dean of Buddhist Studies at OM yoga, and Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer, guitarist, and producer.
The Monday Evening with Omega series concludes Feb. 2 with Steven Michael Pague as the speaker. He delves into the mysteries of qigong and tai chi to access the "elixir within." Participants will take home ways to increase vitality, strengthen immune function, enhance creativity, and achieve more harmony and balance.
To attend the Omega seminars at Maho Bay Camps, just show up. The fee for local residents runs $35. Email Brown or call her at 340-642-2424 for times.
Every week Omega founder Stephan Rechtschaffen discusses "Island Time: Living Fully in the Moment," Steven Pague talks about "Exploring Fields of Elixir: Gathering Starlight," and St. John resident Kelly Hunter talks about "Cosmic Cycles in 2009."
Seminar speakers during the week of Jan. 11 through 16 include Lindsay, as well as Andrew Harvey speaking on Rumi and sacred activism. Additionally, Gina Norman discusses Vinyasa Yoga, Alan Lowen talks about "Total Presence, Natural Tantra," and Roger Jahnke discusses "Claiming the Healing Promise of Qi."
Jan. 18 through 23 features Knopp, as well as Jon Kabat-Zinn speaking on "Mindfulness Based-Stress Reduction: Using Tools for a Lifetime by Exploring our Lives at a Deeper Level." Additionally, Naushon Kabat-Zinn discusses "Power Vinyasa Yoga" and David Wegman speaks on "Re-Imaging the Image."
Jan. 25 through 20 speakers includes Nictern. Additionally, Cyndi Lee will offer dynamic yoga classes with creative sequencing. John Perkins talks about "Achieving Peace Through Higher Consciousness," "Shapeshifting our Institutions," and his book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Tara and Daniel Goleman discuss their books Emotional Alchemy and Emotional Intelligence, which blend mindfulness and Buddhist psychology with neuroscience and cognitive therapy.
