Governor Nominates Consultant to St. Croix Hospital Board

June 17, 2008 — The governor has nominated the founder and president of a leadership development and training consulting company to serve on the St. Croix hospital board.
Before leaving Monday for Washington, D.C., Gov. John deJongh Jr. nominated Valdemar A. Hill, Jr. to serve on the St. Croix District governing board of the Government Hospitals and Health Facilities Corporation.
If confirmed by the Senate, Hill will serve a three-year term. He would also serve on the board of directors of the Hospital Corporation.
"I selected Valdemar Hill Jr. with the expectation that his extensive training in leadership development and training consulting would bring an important skill set to the St. Croix hospital board," deJongh said, according to a Government House news release.
Hill will "tap his vast professional experiences to integrate the use of training and organization development and overall improved individual, group and organizational effectiveness," the release said.
Hill is currently pursuing a doctorate from Capella University. Before starting The Hill Group, served as manager of human resources / training and development at Hovensa. While there Hill collaborated with the University of the Virgin Islands in the establishment of an associate in arts degree program in process technology.
As the owner and president of Educational Dimensions in the mid 1980s, Hill provided management and technical consulting services to business firms and government agencies, including the development of a student-information system for the Education Department. He also conducted a territory-wide study and prepared a comprehensive job classification and salary/wage administration program for the V.I. Water and Power Authority.
Hill's professional experiences also include serving as director of industrial relations for the then-V.I. Telephone Corporation (VITELCO). He has served as a consultant to the U.S. Civil Service Commission, is a registered arbitrator with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and the V.I. Public Employees Relations, and is a certified mediator with the local and federal courts in the territory. Hill has also served as an associate professor of business administration at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the 27th Legislature.
