Brief: WAPA to Waive Late Fees on Delayed Bills

April 9, 2008 — In a prepared statement, the V.I. Water and Power Authority (WAPA) advised some customers on St. Thomas with bills dated March 18, 2008, that 1,792 bills mailed by WAPA may not have been received by customers and late fees for those bills will be waived.
The missing bills had a payment due date of April 7, 2008, and were sent to customers in the Smith Bay, the Nazareth/Red Hook areas, and Water Bay.
According to Maurice Sebastien, Assistant Chief Financial Officer, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has acknowledged receipt of the bills from WAPA, but don't know why they were not delivered. Customers who did not receive a billing statement for March will not be assessed a late fee when payment is made, and service to these customers will not be disconnected prior to the April 18 billing due on May 7, said Sebastien.
To minimize inconvenience to customers, WAPA suggested that customers with PIN numbers refer to their WAPA online accounts to verify amounts due. Customers may also email customerservice@viwapa.vi
to verify amount due and can also apply for a PIN number at that time.
Customers inquiring by telephone should contact customer representatives at 774-3552, extensions 2114, 2115, 2117 or 2111. WAPA said every effort will be made to expeditiously respond to all inquiries.
While payments can be made to WAPA by telephone, using a credit card, payments with past due dates will not be accepted at local banks. Customers making credit card payments may call 774-3552 extension 2114, 2115 or 2137.
