Nov. 27, 2007 — Softball Inc. withstood a late charge from Cross Tech by a score of 15-12 Monday night in Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League action at the D.C. Canegata ball park.
The game, the first of two, saw Cross Tech came back from an early deficit to take the lead in the fourth before Softball Inc. pulled it out in the late innings.
After Cross Tech failed to score in the top of the first, Softball Inc. plated two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run off the bat of Cody St. Pierre to take the early lead. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second on a solo shot off the bat of Scott Cowart after Cross Tech again failed to score in the top of the inning.
Cross Tech finally got on the board in the top of the third, tying the game at three after scoring on an RBI single by Angel Guzman, a sacrifice fly by Carlos Sanabria and an error by the Softball Inc. shortstop. Softball Inc. retook the lead in the bottom of the inning at 5-3, scoring two runs on a two-run shot by St. Pierre — his second home run of the game.
Cross Tech took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth at 8-5 when they erupted for five runs on a three-run blast by Guzman and back-to-back solo shots off the bats of Joey Jones and Richard Sola. Softball Inc. had no answer in the bottom of the inning.
After Cross Tech failed to score in the top of the fifth, Softball Inc. came up with three runs to knot the game at eight after five complete innings. Softball Inc. added to their total with a three-run shot by Aaron Smith.
Cross Tech briefly retook the lead at 9-8 in the top of the sixth when they plated one run on Guzman's RBI single, but that lead was short-lived as Softball Inc. exploded for seven runs to take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. They scored seven runs on a three-run shot by Andres Poche, a solo shot by St. Pierre, a two-run single by Dale Harris and an RBI single off the bat of Jose Codero to lead 15-9 after six innings.
Cross Tech tried to fight back in the top of the seventh, but they came up short. They were only able to score three runs on a two-run homer by Sola and an RBI single by Adam Harris.
Dale Harris pitched the win for Softball Inc. while Bill Harris got the loss for Cross Tech. Top hitters for Softball Inc. were St. Pierre, 4 for 4 with three home runs and five RBIs; Smith, 4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs; and Poche, 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For Cross Tech, Guzman went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs; Sola 2 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs; and Dale Harris 3 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.
In the second game, Claudio Enterprises used a 10-run third inning to blow open a close one before going on to whip 40 Caliber 22-12. Claudio Enterprises scored its 22 runs on 21 hits with three errors, while 40 Caliber had 12 runs on 18 hits and committed five errors.
Julio Carmona got the win on the hill for Claudio, while Steve Nisky picked up the loss. Top hitters for Claudio were Carmona, 5 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs; Luis Moreno, 4 for 4 with two home runs and eight RBIs; and Luis Alexander, 4 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs. For 40 Caliber, Ricardo and Cantobal Encarnacion were both 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
