Brief: Christiansted Bypass Construction Slated for Completion in 2009

May 10, 2007 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. met Wednesday with federal and local officials to be updated on current contracts in place for the Christiansted Bypass.
“This is a dynamic project that will ensure dramatic improvements and a broad vision for transportation management in St. Croix,” deJongh said.
According to a Government House release, the bypass is in phase 1-A of operations, and the contractor, VI Paving, received a “Notice to Proceed” as of April 30. The cost of the project is $6.3 million.
The scheduled date for completion is 2009, and the area slated for future construction runs from Contentment Road, through the hills and south side of Christiansted, to D.C. Canegata Ballpark, covering 1.2 miles in total. A groundbreaking ceremony is set for May 30, 2007.
