Reds Outlast Dodgers, 7-6, in Little League East Midweek Action

April 26, 2007 — The Reds outlasted the Dodgers, 7-6, Wednesday night in an Elmo Plaskett Little League East midweek game played at D.C. Canegata ballpark.
The Reds, who had an early lead, saw the Dodgers take the lead in the third inning before they came back to reclaim it for good in the bottom of the fourth.
Batting first, the Dodgers drew first blood in the top of the first, scoring one run on an RBI single off the bat of Romani Hansen. The Reds tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by Sauline Saldana.
After the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the second, the Reds took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning when Gabriel Figueroa scored on a wild pitch.
The Dodgers would take their only lead of the game, at 4-2, in the top of the third when they scored three runs on RBI singles by D’ondre Simmonds and Jahkyl John and a wild pitch by Reds pitcher, Reynaldo Sierra.
That lead was short lived, however, as the Reds answered with three runs of their own to retake the lead for good at 5-4. They scored three runs on a two-run single by Steven Rodriguez and a wild pitch.
The Reds would add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-4 lead, after the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the inning. RBI singles by Saldana and Leonardo Castillo accounted for the two Reds runs in the inning.
The score would stay that way until the top of the sixth, when, down three runs in their last at bat, the Dodgers rallied for two but came up just short at 7-6.
Sierra shook off temporary wildness in the middle innings to pick up the victory for the Reds, while Hansen took the loss for the Dodgers.
Saldana and Rodriguez led the Reds offensive attack as they both were 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Castillo was 3-for-3 with one RBI. For the Dodgers, Hansen was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Simmonds and Guzman were both 2-for-3 with one RBI.
