Brief: Police Apprehend Golden Grove Escapee

Feb. 28, 2007 — St. Croix Police apprehended Golden Grove prison escapee Jason Stephens at approximately 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to a VIPD release.
Stephens, who escaped from the facility on Feb. 12, was spotted by a concerned citizen who saw Stephens boarding a taxi bus traveling out of Christiansted at approximately 5 p.m.
After the citizen contacted 911, officers set up road blocks on Contentment Road, where Stephens was successfully apprehended. No one was injured during the police operation. Stephens has since been returned to custody at Golden Grove.
Acting Police Chief Winsbut McFarlande thanked the community for its commitment to safer neighborhoods. “The community greatly assisted the police by responding to the department’s call for assistance in returning Mr. Stephens to justice,” McFarlande said.
