Lady Barracudas Explode for 35 Second-Half Points to Top Central B 47-28

Feb. 22, 2007 — Roaring back from a halftime deficit Wednesday afternoon, the Education Complex’s Lady Barracudas blew out the Lady Caribs’ B Team for the second time this season.
In a game played at the Central High Gym, the Lady Barracudas found themselves trailing 14-10 at the half to a team they had blown out in a previous encounter. Whatever the coach told the Lady Barracudas at halftime worked, and they came back to trounce the Lady Caribs’ B team once again, 47-28.
The Lady Barracudas came out in the first quarter unusually cold and careless with the ball. Led by six points from Latifa Felix, the Lady Caribs were able to outscore the obviously more talented Lady Barracudas 10-7 in that period.
The second quarter was even more woeful for both teams, as together they only managed a total of seven points. The Lady Caribs came out on top 4-3 in the second quarter to go into the locker room with the lead.
It would be some time before the Lady Caribs would score again, as they were held scoreless in the third quarter by a rejuvenated Lady Barracudas team defense. The Lady Barracudas started the second half with a full-court press that prevented the Lady Caribs from crossing the half-court line for most of the third quarter. They also began to take advantage of their overwhelming size inside and that, along with their defense, propelled them to a 14-0 third period.
The Lady Caribs did not score until midway through the fourth quarter, but by that time the game was well out of hand. The Lady Barracudas showed why they are one of the top two teams in the league by putting up 35 second half points while holding the opponent to just 14. The 14 points the Caribs scored in the fourth came about after the Lady Barracudas coaching staff had called off the dogs. Even then, the Barracudas still outscored the Caribs 21-14. Hodassah Emmanuel had the hot hand for the Lady Barracudas in the quarter, scoring all of the eight points she would score in the game.
The Lady Barracudas were led offensively by Nuamda San, who finished with a game-high 10 points. Teammates Stella Jarvis netted nine points and Emmanuel chipped in with eight. The Lady Caribs were led by Yvette Brookes, who finished with nine, while Felix finished with seven points and Akeema Edwards netted six fourth-quarter points.
