Jan. 30, 2007 — Services will be held Monday on both St. Croix and St. Thomas for Sgt. 1st Class Floyd E. Lake, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the V.I. National Guard.
Lake and Lt. Col. David C. Canegata III of St. Croix died Jan. 13 when the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter they were aboard went down near Baghdad. All 12 soldiers in the chopper were killed.
The Lake family has chosen to celebrate the fallen soldier's life by hosting a memorial service on St. Thomas and the funeral on St. Croix, according to the release.
The memorial service will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Estate Tutu, St. Thomas.
The remains will then be transported to St. Croix for a 1 p.m. funeral service at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church in Estate Plessen, Grove Place. Interment will follow at the veterans section of the Kingshill Cemetery.
