40 Caliber 'Drops Anchor'; Wyatt Heat and Terminix Prevail

Jan. 23, 2007 — On a night of hotly contested games in the Bob Owen’s slow pitch softball league at D.C. Anchor Dive had the early success, but 40 Caliber’s success came in the late innings, on their way to a hard-fought 16-13 win.
Batting first, Anchor Dive got on the board with two runs on an RBI single by Danny Rodriguez and a fielder’s choice RBI to Carmelo Torres. 40 Caliber responded with three runs on a two-run home run off the bat of Orlando Benitez and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sylvester Blake to take a 3-2 lead after one inning.

In the top of the third, Anchor Dive erupted for eight runs, which included a two-run, towering blast over the center field fence off the bat of Rodriguez, a three-run shot by Edwin Rivera, a two-run double by Fernando Irizarry and an error by the 40 Caliber center fielder Wayne Scott, to take a 13-3 lead.
40 Caliber, however, answered with eight runs of their own on a three-run home run by Robert Ramsingh, a two-run shot by Angel Torres, a sac fly by Freddy Benitez and RBI singles by Steve Nisky and Mapleton Lawrence, to trail 13-11 at the end of three complete innings.
After Anchor Dive failed to score in the top of the fifth, 40 Caliber got one run on a solo shot off the bat of Blake to get to within one at 13-12.
