Jan. 19, 2007 — V.I. Water and Power Authority urges customers paying utility bills after the 10-day disconnection notice period to see a customer service representative before paying at the cashier window, according to a release issued Friday.
The representative can then assist customers with accounts appearing on the daily disconnect listing to possibly avoid the inconvenience of disconnection.
According to the release, if the customer’s name appears on the electric service disconnect list and the service has not yet been disconnected, an administrative fee will be assessed to hold the scheduled disconnection. Customers are advised to follow this procedure, as reconnection fees can be as much as $200 for reconnections made after hours or on holidays.
In order to avoid delays in crediting payments to utility accounts, WAPA recommends that customers with a 10-day disconnect notice or delinquent accounts of 30 days or more, make payment at the WAPA cashier windows rather than at participating banks or by mail.
Payment windows are open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. St. John payment windows are closed on Saturdays.
