Joseph T. Katsikaris 'Beach Shack Bobby' Dead at 65

Jan. 17, 2007 – Joseph T. Katsikaris, better known as "Bobby," died unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on St Croix on Jan. 4, at the age of 65. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam conflict. After his discharge he began to cultivate his passion for culinary arts and the food industry. He was the manager and owner of many fine-dining restaurants in the states including Manhattan, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Bobby was a St Croix legend, who moved here 20 years ago. While on island, he managed Penthany's, Banana Bay, Waves, and for the last six years owned "Bobby's Beach Shack" at Gentle Winds. He loved to be with people, had an incredible sense of humor and the ability to make everyone feel special. He especially loved children and teasing them and they in turn loved him. He was always there for anyone who needed his help. A handshake with Bobby was a solid deal. He was the epitome of honesty. Bobby loved this island and the people here.
He is survived by his mother, Lillian Katsikaris; his daughter, Mary Hornick; grandchildren: Kristina Katsikaris and Joseph Hornick; three brothers: Ron, George and Wayne Katsikaris; and sister, Helen Beck. Other survivors include aunts: Helen Fansworth, and Mary and Ann Katsikaris. There are many other cousins, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Donations can be made in his name to the Queen Louise Home for Children and VI CARE.
