DLCA Will No Longer Inspect Taxis

Jan. 17, 2007 – In accordance with provisions of Act 6839, the Taxicab Division of the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs will no longer conduct vehicle inspections. All inspections of taxi vehicles will be conducted by the Motor Vehicle Bureau before they are registered, according to a press release from Acting DLCA Commissioner Grace Fahie.
Act 6839 became law in June of 2006 by actions of the 26th Legislature when it overrode a gubernatorial veto of the bill. The original legislation was passed in May of last year.
For information or questions concerning the inspection of taxis, call the MVB at 713-4268 on St. Croix.
