Rivera Resigns as Chamber of Commerce Director

Feb. 23, 2006 – St. Croix Chamber of Commerce Director Benjamin Rivera Jr. resigned effective Feb. 17 after his one-year contract ended.
Rivera declined to discuss his plans, but said he was resigning to pursue personal goals and business matters. "I can't be specific," he said.
He declined to "confirm or deny" that he was running for political office.
Rivera said Thursday that his accomplishments during his time as director included making the Chamber of Commerce a more visible advocate for business.
"And we were able to attract a fair amount of new members," he said.
Additionally, he said that during his time as director, the Chamber established a relationship with the Interior Department to help develop policies and further the island's economic development.
He will remain on the organization's board of directors.
Rivera said that he has not been replaced, but that the Chamber is putting together a search committee.
Chamber President Diane Butler could not be reached for comment.
