Woman is Territory's Fifth Homicide of the Year

Feb. 8, 2006 – A murder investigation is underway on St. Croix after a 28-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday evening. Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah said early Wednesday that Sherry Ann Phillips was pronounced dead at Juan Luis Hospital at 6:52 p.m. after suffering a singe gunshot wound to the head.
While Hannah would not confirm the report, law enforcement sources told Radio One that Phillips was killed during a domestic violence confrontation at a residence in Barren Spot. Phillips was reportedly a member of St. Croix Rescue.
Sources said she and her boyfriend became engaged in a confrontation that escalated into the shooting. The unidentified man is reportedly a Corrections Bureau prison guard. Hannah would only confirm the shooting saying the case was an open investigation.
The shooting marks the territory's fifth killing of the year, the second on St. Croix.
