Aug. 3, 2005 – An unidentified man is dead after gunfire erupted around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on the East end of St. Thomas. The shooting occurred in the vicinity of Lake's Chicken Fry in Smith Bay, according sources quoted by WVWI Radio One. The victim, according to the radio report, was wearing only short green pants and apparently suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Deputy Police Chief Elvin Fahie said from the scene that officers responding to the call "found a black male lying in blood with multiple gunshot wounds to the body." He said the Major Crime Unit detectives were combing the area for evidence and developing leads in the case.
Fahie encouraged anyone with information to "call the Investigation Bureau and provide us with any information that would allow us to bring this case to closure." Fahie said no motive for the slaying has been established and police have no suspects.
The killing is the 23rd in the territory this year, 12 on St. Thomas and 11 on St. Croix.
