V.I. Basketballers Capture Medals

July 16, 2005 – At the completion of the V CBC Juniors Championships, the V.I. Young Women National Team secured the silver medal after losing to Puerto Rico in the championship game, while the Junior Men National Team captured the bronze medal in a win against Trinidad and Tobago.
According to a press release from the V.I. Basketball Federation, the CBC tournament qualified the Virgin Islands to field a junior men and a women national teams in the upcoming Centro Basket Championships. The Centro Basket games will be held in Santiago, Dominican Republic Aug. 4 to 9. The tournament will feature the top eight countries in Central America and the Caribbean.
The Basketball Federation is issuing an invitation to all prospective participants. All candidates must meet the International Basketball Federation requirements of being born on or after Jan. 1988, and either born in the U.S. Virgin Islands; born of parents born in the U.S. Virgin Islands; or naturalized in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Interested participants may pick-up and forms from Pedrito Estrill or Myron Corbett on St. Thomas and on St. Croix from Alvan Jarvis or Derek Miller. Athlete forms are also available on both St. Croix and St. Thomas at the offices of Sen., Usie Richards. For further information please call 712-2320 or 693-3569.
