Community Alert: Phone Lines At Waste Management Authority Crossed

July 12, 2005 – The V.I. Waste Management Authority is having telephone problems. A release sent Tuesday afternoon from the authority said the main office number, 340-773-4489 is crossed with a residential number. A secondary number, 340-773-4489 was reportedly working. However, an attempt to reach the authority at that number also resulted in a crossed line.
Innovative Telephone is working to correct the problem, according to the release.
Another person said when she tried to call a number in Frederiksted from the Princess area she also got a crossed line.
Innovative spokesman Tom Dunn said Tuesday afternoon, "I know we're doing a major splice over on St. Croix. When you do that there's always a chance you are going to touch someone else's line."
Other than that, Dunn said he had not been informed of any other problems. He said the splicing is part of an ongoing project on St. Croix.
He also said we was unaware of a trouble call being placed from the authority, though the release said Innovative was working to correct the problem.
.Other numbers that can be used to contact the authority are:
Environmental Programs: 719-7877
Solid Waste: 719-1151
Human Resources: 772-9468
