March 4, 2005 –– Delta Air Lines non-stop flight from Atlanta to St. Croix lands for the first time Saturday. The airline will fly Wednesdays and Saturdays. The 737-800 airplane can carry up to 148 passengers.
"This increased airlift to St. Croix has enormous implications for the continuing growth of tourism to the territory," Pamela Richards, Tourism Commissioner, said in a news release Thursday.
She said the Southeast tourism market is important for the Virgin Islands.
Flight 1777 leaves Atlanta at 9:55 a.m., arriving at St. Croix's Henry E. Rohlsen Airport at 2.35 p.m. The return flight departs St. Croix at 3:25 p.m., arriving in Atlanta at 6:38 p.m.
A Delta Web site (See www.deltavacations.com") calls St. Croix its newest destination and features a film clip of St. Croix.
Richards hosted a reception March 3 for more than 75 travel industry partners and top-producing retail travel agents in the Atlanta area to commemorate the new flight.
It was held at Rhodes Hall, an historic house owned by the Georgia Trust. The landmark home, located on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, is regularly used as a site for various functions.
